Wade Mikkola on BassNow this is a horn section that will play to everyones tastes.

The concept of the Contrasts group is to bring out the musical and soloistic contrasts between two soloists who have created an individual voice on their instruments. The first version included Mikko Innanen and Manuel Dunkel on saxophones.

So CONTRASTS No.2 features a new pair for comparison. Larry Price (alto sax) and Jussi Kannaste (tenor sax) have both become known for their individual styles of playing the saxophone. This is the first time they share the stage together, as well as with the great drummer Klaus Suonsaari. The inventive pianist, Riitta Paakki, has already performed with the first Contrasts group in its three last performances and is well versed with the concept.

SIZZLING EDGE TO STRAIGHT AHEAD JAZZ…the band’s concept again showed its staying power.”

 Jukka Hauru – Helsingin Sanomat

“LIVE WITH HIGH PRESSURE!..this is a very good quintet-record, and even better ‘live’-record.
Jan-Erik Holmberg – Hufvudstadsbladet

“…So one more time: I think this is an excellent Finnish jazz-record by excellent
artists… It most definitely belongs to the record-shelf of every expert jazz-digger!”
Jazzrytmit – Osku Rajala

“Wade” Mikkola, bassist and the founder of the group, is excited to see what is going to be created by these new “contrasting elements”…great improvisation will ensue for sure definitely.
